Are you planning to renovate your kitchen? The team at Lands have brainstormed some tips to help you create the perfect kitchen space, complete with modern appliances and functional design features.

Oven:

Selecting an oven that fits the style and size of your kitchen and meets your cooking needs is crucial. With so many oven options on the market, it's important to research and find the one that suits you best. Consider a statement piece such as a freestanding cooker or a built-in oven placed within cabinetry or a wall. Experienced renovators recommend wall mounting ovens for practicality. Also, consider purchasing two ovens if you need extra cooking capacity and have the space to do so.

Colour:

Although kitchens have had a neutral colour palette for the past decade, many people are now looking to introduce colour into their homes. Look for inspiration in styling magazines, Pinterest, and Instagram. Timber veneers are a popular choice as they provide texture, depth, and interest to cabinetry and benches.

Cooktop:

The cooktop you choose can influence the overall style of your kitchen. Gas cooktops provide warmth and comfort, while induction cooktops offer a safer and cleaner cooking option with a sleek, modern appeal.

Functional lighting:

Kitchens are no longer just for cooking, so lighting should suit more than one purpose. Mix task and mood lighting by placing strong overhead lighting for cooking and meal preparation, LED strip lighting underneath upper cabinetry for direct light on benchtops, and a subtle wall light or pendant light for a warm glow in the space.

Storage space:

Maximise storage space by using every inch of floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and avoiding open, unused space. Use drawers instead of cupboards, as they are more functional in a busy kitchen. While they may cost more than cupboards, they are worth the investment in the long run.

Butler’s pantry:

For those with extra space, a butler’s pantry is a luxury addition that provides extra storage and convenience. Use it to store pantry goods and small benchtop appliances.
