When it comes to buying a property in South Australia, we are certainly spoilt for options. The property possibilities and lifestyle advantages are infinite, ranging from lovely beachside homes to country cottages, urban apartments and everything in between. How can you, however, make sure that when the time comes to put your home on the market, it will appeal to local buyers’ attention?

There are a few important factors that our local buyers are searching for that you may want to consider before taking your property to market. The more potential purchasers your property draws in, the better. Check out the list that our team has put together to see what certain features house hunters are looking for.

Natural Light - Not every property can have the much desired Northern aspect, but homes with open spaces, huge windows, and skylights are just as desirable. So forget about seeing the city skyline or having million-dollar views - just let there be light!

Multiple Living Areas - While open-plan living used to be the gold standard for buyers, house hunters are now favouring properties with multiple living spaces and a seamless flow throughout. Having numerous living spaces can provide prospective buyers peace of mind that there will be room to expand and provide different areas for the family to enjoy.

High Quality Finishes - It can be unsettling for many buyers to find substandard finishes throughout the house. When making improvements to your home before putting it on the market, keep the final finish simple, neat, and appealing. It doesn't have to be flashy, but it must be completely finished without any short cuts.

Practicality vs Luxury - Before taking your property to market, you might want to reconsider installing the newest, most fashionable tiles, tapware, flooring, benchtops, and other fixtures. Buyers are looking for homes that demonstrate functionality rather than the newest trends. Simple cosmetic updates to a home can be made by the new owner to make it more modern, but spending money to change impractical features such as having an excessive number of closed-off rooms, insufficient natural light, and a disjointed layout is more worrying and expensive for potential buyers to change in the future.

Garage - Although having a garage may seem like a basic feature house hunters search for, many potential buyers find this aspect crucial. Having a garage on your property is a practical feature because they are extremely convenient for any homeowner as they provide additional storage space and we all know you can never have enough storage.
